Competitive trampolining involves developing skills with the aim of performing them in routines at Scottish & British Gymnastics competitions, with a progressive increase of difficulty as you go upwards through the structure. Competitive training is geared towards perfecting foundations and building technique, flexibility and conditioning in the early stages, as this forms the basis of all skills at even the highest end of the sport.
Recreational trampolining still involves working on these foundations in order to learn the primary skills, but without the focus on perfection that is required for a gymnast to be able to develop these further as they progress into higher levels. It is more relaxed and more concerned with helping the kids learn the skills individually, and introducing them to the different elements involved in the sport (different landing positions, twisting, somersaulting, etc).
